Window Replacement in Barberton

Barberton at a glance

Barberton is a city of 25,191 people (2020) directly southwest of Akron, founded in 1891 by industrialist O.C. Barber.

What that means for your windows

Barberton has many older homes from its industrial boom, often with original wood windows, narrow openings and painted trim. Homes built before 1978 may have lead paint on window parts, so lead-safe work practices matter; see lead-safe window work.

Basements

Older homes often have small basement windows. Finishing a basement may need an egress window to make a legal bedroom, along with a properly drained window well.

The Magic City

O.C. Barber moved the Diamond Match Company, formed from 11 merged companies, from Akron to Barberton in 1894 and was soon producing 250 million matches a day. In the valley beside the Tuscarawas River and the Ohio and Erie Canal, he built factories, neighborhoods and a compact downtown around Lake Anna, named for his daughter. The town grew so fast it was called the Magic City. Homes from that boom are now well over a century old, and many still have openings that need careful measuring for replacement double-hungs.
