Joshua Stow's township

Stow is named for Joshua Stow, a member of Moses Cleaveland's 1796 party that surveyed the Connecticut Western Reserve. He never lived here but invested time and money in developing the township, calling it one of the prettiest and most romantic spots in the Western Reserve. Before settlers arrived, a small Seneca settlement stood near today's Silver Lake. Much of Stow grew up later as a suburb, and homes built in the same decades often share the same window sizes and styles, which can make a whole-house replacement straightforward to plan.
