Window Replacement in Cuyahoga Falls

Cuyahoga Falls at a glance

Cuyahoga Falls is a city of 51,114 people (2020) directly north of Akron, the second-largest in Summit County. It was founded in 1812 by William Wetmore as Manchester and renamed for the river's waterfalls.

What that means for your windows

The city has a wide range of housing, from older homes near the river to mid-century neighborhoods and newer subdivisions. Older houses often still have original wood double-hungs or early replacements now past their prime; see window replacement. Many mid-century ranches have wide sliders and picture windows that lose a lot of heat.

River valley damp

Homes near the river and in the valley can see more humidity and condensation on cold glass in winter. Good ventilation and tight, insulated windows reduce it, and running bathroom fans after showers helps keep the glass clear.

Waterfalls and mills

The waterfalls along the Cuyahoga powered the town's first industries. Kelsey and Wilcox built a dam and flour, oil and saw mills in 1812, and houses grew up around them in what was called the old village. When a dam built downstream by William Wetmore flooded the old village in 1826, its mills were torn down and development moved. Homes in the oldest parts of town have seen many renovations, so window openings may be out of square or framed unusually; careful measuring is part of a good double-hung replacement.
